 Acorn Llangors Regatta 2008

 30th - 31st August

Published: 02/09/2008
This was the 29th Junior Regatta to be held at Llangors Lake, and with a summer of disappointing weather it looked like the weekend was set to follow in the same vain! So after a busy Friday night of sailors arriving and the erection of the tents and parking of campervans everyone settled down to the possibility of another weekend of wetness.

However Saturday morning arrived with the sun out and a perfect breeze for sailing. Registration was completed and with 80 plus sailors present everyone started to launch, under the watchful eye of Mr Doust, to make their way out to the race start area. Two races were completed in near perfect conditions before all competitors came ashore for lunch.

Following lunch 2 more races were completed in similar conditions to the morning races and all competitors, coaches, volunteers and parents could reflect on a good days racing while relaxing around numerous BBQ’s and fires, something that has been absent throughout the whole summer due to the awful weather.

Sunday morning and all awoke to dark grey skies and next to no wind, although the rain held off! With some competitors making the trip for just the Sunday having completed other obligations on the Saturday we all hoped for some sort of racing.

After much consultation the race start was postponed and windsurf board racing seemed to be the order of the day. After much screaming and laughter (not to mention wetness) the wind was deemed to have filled in enough to go sailing. So in very light winds one more race was completed before all came ashore and the de-rigging and packing away began.

So in summary after one fine days racing and one not so fine day the results were done and the winners of the perpetual trophies announced. For all results please follow the link above. Finally a big thank you has to go to Llangors Sailing Club and Acorn for once again hosting the event and helping to make it such a big success. I would also like to personally thank all the coaches, volunteers and parents that continue to make this event the success it is.
