North Wales duo Bleddyn Mon and Tom Humphries have claimed the Welsh Young Sailor Award for the second year running.
The British national champions now go forward as the Welsh nomination for the Royal Yachting Association Young Sailor of the Year award.
Apart from winning the British title, Anglesey sailors Mon and Humphries were second in Europe and third in the youth nationals, meaning they were again the outstanding Welsh performers at junior level.
“We looked at it very closely and it was unanimous that Bleddyn and Tom deserved the award again,” said Welsh Yachting Association director of sailing Tim Hall.
“There is a precedent in that Hannah Mills won it twice in a row and she has gone on to become a Junior World Champion this year, showing she is a great prospect for the 2012 Olympics.
“There are a few Welsh sailors who have had good performances this year, but Bleddyn and Tom just had the edge overall.
“Hopefully they will have a good chance in the national award as well.
“Their next focus is the worlds next July in Italy where they will be going for gold, but they have proved once again they are outstanding prospects themselves.”
