Solva Sailor is Top Topper
Solva sailor Ellie Meopham put in a stunning performance to be the best of British as she finished top girl at the Magic Marine Topper Inland Championships.
She was part of the biggest ever Welsh entry for the 23-year-old event and finished third overall, including a victory over all the boys in one of the races.
She backed up that victory with a second place and a third to confirm her position on the podium.
“This was a remarkable performance by Ellie, finishing as the top girl and third overall really is outstanding,” said Welsh sailing high performance manager Iwan Basten.
“She won one of the races, a stunning achievement in itself, but was also very consistent in adding 2nd, 3rd and sixth place finishes.
“It was also great to see such a large Welsh team taking part, the biggest we have ever sent.
“Many other members of the team did very well considering the size of the overall entry with more than 200 sailors taking part.”
There were 258 sailors from all around the UK for one of the top events for those competing in the Topper class of dinghy, with light winds meaning the event was restricted to four races on one day.
